Studying at an IIT is the dream of every engineering student. And why it must not be? Completing one’s degree from IIT has always been considered a life-changing decision and once in a lifetime opportunity. Studying at an IIT has so many amazing perks for the students such as getting opportunities like interacting with Nobel Laureates, visiting prestigious universities like MIT, Stanford and Harvard for research programs, acquiring financial assistance on projects and landing on desirable salary packages.
Getting into an IIT is no easy task. Every year, lakhs of IIT aspirants sit for entrance exams in the hope of grabbing just one seat in any of the IITs. But unfortunately, that one seat doesn’t come to every aspirant due to limited seats and tough competition. Only a few out of lakhs are able to make it to the IITs.
The IIT aspirants who fail to get admission get disheartened. But here is something that will cheer your spirits up if you are also one of them, and if not, no information is bad, right? Maybe you could help any other IIT aspirant to reach the destination!
IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) one of the premier institutions is now open to students who do not clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). This seems unbelievable, right? BUT it is not. Students from Humanities, Engineering and Science streams can now look up to IIT Gandhinagar to let them in.
IITGN has a special course known as the ‘Non-Degree Program’ which offers an undergraduate and postgraduate student a full-time and part-time course that allows students to spend an entire semester on campus.
The icing on the cake is that a student pursuing that course will be treated the same as a regular student and can use all the academic facilities like laboratories, on-campus accommodation, internet, library, computer centres, sports, meals and so on.
Well, to give you a brief regarding the same, the program has been started around a decade ago with the objective to give a chance to the deserving students to be introduced to the IIT systems, which is otherwise not possible for a large number of students owing to the cut-throat competition in entrances.
Therefore, the damn hard IIT aspirants will no longer need to get restricted to qualifying JEE or GATE to learn from the culture of an IIT.
IITGN also has an alternate mission to shed the image of IITs being exclusive institutes. And since the beginning of this special program, it has been working in the same direction apart from giving hope and opportunity to die-hard IIT fans.
One of the perks of this program is that if a student joins it mid-term with some other course, he/she will get a credit that will not hamper his/her regular degree.
IITGN also offers part-time courses for students who are already graduate or post-graduate. For that, a student will need to have a good academic record as the only focus in IITGN is academics and quality education.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
- Once a student gets admitted to IITGN, he/she will require to pay the fees for the entire semester and follow certain rules and guidelines.
- After completing the course, the student will be presented with a certificate from the institute after which his/her regular college program can be resumed.
Application Deadlines
Admission offer is open for both Semester-I (August-November) and Semester-II (January-April). Application in the prescribed form can be submitted by 1 July for the Semester-I and by 1 December for Semester-II of the academic year.
Criteria for admission in IIT Gandhinagar
The applicant has to be a part of a recognized institute or university in India or abroad and should be officially sponsored by that Institute/University to complete part of his/her academic requirements at IITGN.
If you want to be a part of this brilliant initiative, the time is NOW!
