JEE (ADVANCED) PHYSICS PREPARATION TIPS
Maintain good sleeping habits
Maintaining good sleeping habits is essential for proper functioning of both body and mind. While lack of sleep can result in poor concentration levels, a good sleep aids in effective learning and better retention. It is, thus, advised that you sleep for at least 7 hours daily and preferably in the night. In addition, taking an afternoon nap of 15-20 minutes can help you re-energize and stay active for the remaining day.
Keep your body & mind healthy
It is rightly said that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Take proper care of your body and mind by indulging in exercise and eating right food. Take out some time for yoga, light exercises or simply go for a brisk walk. This will keep your body healthy and refresh your mind. Apart from that, eat green leafy vegetables and take protein rich diet. Do not skip your meals or settle for junk food. During the critical period before the exam, it is very important to stay healthy as even a single day’s loss can have massive repercussions.
3. Practice is the key to success
Practice as many previous year question papers, sample papers, mock test papers as possible. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll become of your preparation. Apart from that, pay attention to problems you are not able to solve. Understand the concepts and learn how to apply the concepts to the given problem. Take this as an opportunity to learn and work on your weaknesses. However, this does not mean that you spend all your time and energy on tough problems and start solving Irodov only. Try not to go outside the IIT JEE syllabus. Refer to the aforementioned books or study material based on the IIT JEE syllabus. Carefully go through it and solve all its questions. In addition, pay attention to the solved questions as it may introduce you to different method of solving the same problems. If you get stuck, move to the next question. You can return back to solve the problem later.
4. Peer to Peer Learning
Peer to peer learning is a very important part of the learning process and quite effective. You can form a peer group with your classmates, roommates or other aspiring students who share the same goal as you and teach each other. Surrounding yourself with focused and goal-oriented students can take your preparation up a few more notches. You can spend some time together after the class or meet once a week at a designated area to discuss the concepts or questions, share queries, etc. All this will not only keep you updated with the latest and important questions but will also introduce you to newer ways of solving problems. Peer to peer learning not only strengthens your concepts but also helps evaluate your own preparation.
5. Revise everyday
Qualifying in the JEE Advanced examination need a thorough preparation. However, as we proceed further in our preparation, old chapters fade away. For efficient preparation and guaranteed success, consistent revision is vital. Keep on revising the chapters you have already covered along with new ones. This will help you remember the information and retain it for long. You will feel more confident of your preparation and less anxious.
6. Analyze your mock tests
Whenever you attempt any mock test, you must analyze it on the same day for mistakes and areas of improvement. Try to understand what caused the mistake. Go through the correct solution of the same and practice more questions of similar nature. If your concepts are not clear, ask for help and work on your weaknesses. Keep on attempting more questions of similar nature until you get it right.
7. Doubt Bank
Maintain a notebook for all your doubts and mistakes. Note down all the doubts you have and mistakes you may have committed while preparing for the exam. Also write down the solution of your doubts and mistakes in this notebook. The doubts and mistakes are hard to learn but necessary to understand. Usually, it is the lack of knowledge or misconception that results into a doubt.
In case of misconception, you have to work even harder as first you need to unlearn the misconception and then re-learn the right concept. This requires more attention and revision. Hence, we keep them in a separate notebook and keep on revising them again and again.
