With more than 7 lakh people affected worldwide and 33,000 deaths, the coronavirus pandemic has reached a critical phase bringing several countries including India under a virtual state of total lockdown. The pandemic has not only caused social disruption but has also slowed the world economy by significantly affecting it.
As the world grapples with this unprecedented situation that has impacted millions of lives and adversely affected the economy, many organizations are re-evaluating their goals as in every crisis lies an opportunity. There is no doubt about how the COVID-19 situation has put many businesses at stake and if these businesses do not act swiftly, they may be forced to shut down. Hence, amid these volatile times, it is now more critical than ever to fight the situation and find opportunity in the crisis.
With many companies making amendments by replacing the traditional work pattern with work from home ensuring that the business is not completely at loss and employees can work from the safety of their homes and meetings now taking place over Zoom sessions, it is time that all of us brace up for the future that lies ahead.
This is the time to rattle your brains, upgrade your skills, look beyond and prepare for the unforeseeable future. In case you are feeling stuck at home working without any hope for any kind of social interaction, understand that in every crisis lies an opportunity. An opportunity to make things work, adopt new ideas and convert them into reality.
Looking back, history illustrates that crisis can direct the world to a solution. As US President Kennedy said, out of crisis can emerge new and incredible opportunities, particularly if traditional approaches and paradigms are questioned and challenged. Incentives and motivations change leading to new cooperative behaviours and even to the creation of new systems or structures. The crisis can get the collective adrenaline flowing, focusing minds to solve the problem at hand, in fact becoming much better & agile than before.
When you are forced out of your routine and habits, you find opportunities for growth. So, instead of wasting your self-quarantine time panicking over the news or scrolling through social media, use this experience to convert the current crisis into an opportunity while being at home:
-
Keep Calm
Think of ways to convert your current strength into a motivation to learn new things relevant for the new normal.
-
Think Differently
In times like this, don’t sit in your homes and say nothing can be done. Rather ask a question as to how it can be done in the given situation. Break the barriers of your mind and think out of the box.
-
Believe in Yourself
In these testing times, do not lose faith in your abilities. Instead, become more energized and invigorated. Flip all obstacles upside down and find opportunities within them.
-
Make New Rules
What works is right for the moment. Evolve it into a system as you re-grow yourself.
-
Scenario Planning
Think of the worst and start preparing from there backwards and you will never be defeated.
-
Enhance Your Skills
Make the most of this time by enhancing your skill sets. There are plenty of online courses that can give an extra boost to your career.
-
Stay Motivated
Things might get super taxing with working at home and you may feel stuck with things dragged on for days during the lockdown. It is very important to stay motivated in these troubled times. Do not lose hope and remember that every cloud has a silver lining.
Having said that, when life comes to a halt, what makes a difference is the lessons you learn from it. So, let’s all live to fight another day and turn the crisis into opportunity. Let’s emerge stronger and more successful from the obstacle that life has thrown upon us. Let’s follow the following mantras and succeed.
As India continues its fight against Coronavirus, let’s take care of ourselves and be more responsible. Wash hands frequently, stay home and keep others safe. Indulge in meditation, yoga or simple exercises to keep stress at bay. Stay positive and learn from this experience.
We are all truly in this together and together we can find a way through this.
